Itch.io, the indie gaming platform, has recently made waves by announcing its upcoming Creator Day set for November 29, as reported by Engadget. On this special Friday, every dollar you spend on the platform will directly benefit the developers, with itch.io opting to waive its usual 10% fee.
What makes this Creator Day particularly unique is its timing—it coincides perfectly with itch.io’s annual Autumn Sale, running from November 27 to December 5. This year, the event has attracted the contributions of over 7,400 projects from the platform’s vast developer community. These offerings range from digital and physical games to assets useful for creating your own projects.
Creator Day began as a thoughtful initiative by itch.io in 2021, during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, aimed at providing extra support to developers facing financial difficulties.
Reflecting on the inception of this initiative, Spencer Hayes, itch.io’s business and content director, shared with Polygon, “Our community supports us every single day, and we thought it would be wonderful to dedicate a day to give back. Times have been tough for many, and this is our way of lending a hand where we can.”
Itch.io has already built a reputation for its developer-friendly revenue model, asking just 10% from sales—even less than what platforms like Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store, and the Apple App Store typically require. However, through initiatives like Creator Day and various charity events held throughout the year, itch.io distinguishes itself from the rest, going above and beyond for the game development community.
