Hello, Xbox enthusiasts! We’re thrilled to share some exciting news about our upcoming game, Overthrown. Get ready because it’s set to drop into Xbox Game Preview on the Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 5th—yes, that’s right, and you can access it with Game Pass too! For those of you just discovering our creation, Overthrown isn’t your typical city builder. We’ve added a hefty dose of chaos and a unique twist by letting you play as an anime-inspired character with superhero powers, teaming up with as many as five friends. But don’t worry, you’ll still get to enjoy the challenge of city building, defending against mutants and bandits, and managing resources. Today, I’m here to offer some tips to help you make the most of your co-op experience.
Before we dive into those tips, let’s set the stage with a bit of background. Thanks to an ancient, soul-stealing crown chock-full of magic, you’ll have the ability to lift nearly anything in your path. Huge trees? No problem. Monster nests? Piece of cake. Picture this: hoisting an entire sawmill and gliding through the forest, collecting trees along the way! Your strength is limitless! Plus, you’ve got supersonic speed, an epic throw that’s destined to be in the history books, and a spinning attack so rapid it could launch you skyward like a helicopter. Now imagine all this with up to five friends onboard. Can you picture the wild antics that could unfold?
To help you hit the ground running, here are a few pointers for maximizing your co-op playtime.
One Crown to Rule Them All
When you’re playing with friends, the Crown will appear on the map, available for anyone to snatch up, so it pays to be quick on the draw. Everyone gets to share in the Crown’s power, but the person currently wearing it accumulates a stash of extra charge, allowing for faster access to awesome moves. You and your friends are in it together, but a little healthy competition never hurt anyone, right? Occasionally, that all-important Crown might be nabbed or go astray, making way for a bit of good-natured rivalry. It can even be picked up by an enemy like a Tuskar or Outlaw, at which point it’s a race to reclaim it. The person who retrieves the Crown gets an extra boost, adding an exciting layer to your strategy. Remember, there’s no PvP in Overthrown, so there’s no chance to backstab a buddy for it.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
The second tip involves tailoring your city-building strategy. Construct more workstations, and you’ll notice a rise in citizen arrivals in your settlement. Coordinate with your pals by assigning each person to different zones and districts to expedite citizen growth. And don’t fret over everyone enjoying all tasks equally. If you’re more the builder type and your friend craves combat, no worries—the chores can be easily divided based on preference.
Experiment
Last but certainly not least, I urge you to embrace experimentation. When we were crafting Overthrown, it was driven by player curiosity. We want you and your friends to continuously ask, "Can I do this?” or “What happens if I try that?" The answer is a resounding, "Yes, go ahead!" We’ve designed the game with abundant interactivity in mind, ensuring every session is filled with surprise, fun, and those moments of sheer ridiculous joy that make gaming with friends such a blast!
We hope Overthrown piques your interest, whether you dive in solo or with friends. As it’s landing in Game Preview, we’re actively seeking community feedback to shape its future. So, come be part of this adventure when Overthrown launches on December 5th for Xbox consoles and PC via Xbox Game Preview and Game Pass.
Note: Our initial announcement said December 10th, but the date has been updated to December 5th. Mark your calendars!
