Anomaly, the latest creation from the developers behind Swarm, is gearing up for its debut on Meta Quest this December.
Crafted by Greensky Games, renowned for their work on Swarm and its sequel, Swarm 2, Anomaly is a fresh take on the extraction shooter genre set in the distant future of 2050. Players find themselves in a bleak, abandoned city divided into three unique areas, where they must outsmart enemy teams and terrifying creatures, all competing to seize and safely extract a coveted rare Artifact.
Whether you prefer to face the challenges alone or team up with friends in duos or trios, Anomaly offers flexibility in how you experience the game. Core mechanics familiar to extraction shooter fans are at play: take down adversaries, battle through waves of AI enemies, grab valuable gear, and strive to escape with your loot. But remember, a misstep could cost you everything.
Peter Le Bek, the visionary behind Greensky Games, shared his thoughts on Anomaly in a recent statement. He emphasized the game’s roots in successful titles like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown.
“With Anomaly, we’re capturing the essence of what makes extraction shooters like Tarkov and Hunt Showdown thrilling, and we’re cranking it up a notch,” Le Bek explained. “It’s more than just the action—it’s about fully immersing players in the game’s atmosphere, the tension of escaping, and the dread of potential loss. This is an extraction shooter designed for VR, where every match brings its own intensity, making each moment and decision resonate in a way traditional games can’t.”
For those eager to get a sneak peek, a Closed Beta is currently underway, and enthusiastic players can sign up to participate. Mark your calendars, as Anomaly is set to launch on the Meta Quest Store in early December.
