The launch of Hitman World of Assassination on PlayStation VR2 is now set for next year, following a delay from its originally planned release.
Initially unveiled during the State of Play event in September, IO Interactive had promised that the popular Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy would be available for PlayStation VR2 by this December. However, the release has now been postponed to March 27, 2025. The developers explained that this additional time allows them to perfect the experience and introduce a few extra features, such as active manual reloading.
In a statement on PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive addressed the delay directly:
“First off, we want to talk about changing our launch date. Initially scheduled for December 2024, the Hitman World of Assassination release on PS VR2 is now set for March 27, 2025. This wasn’t an easy decision. We know there’s a strong desire to see Hitman on PS VR2, and we were thrilled about the positive feedback following our announcement.”
The developers emphasized their commitment: “Our top priority is always to provide an exceptional experience that lives up to the high expectations of our players. The extra time will enable our team to ensure the game is polished, offering an experience that’s refined, immersive, and seamless. Plus, we’re taking this opportunity to add some features we’ve been eager to include in this version, like active reloading.”
This upcoming VR edition marks the third venture by IO Interactive to adapt its renowned series for VR, following previous endeavors for Quest and PC VR/PSVR. Fans can expect the upcoming release to include all major levels from the revamped trilogy, with features such as dual-wielding and room-scale gameplay, along with new controls and mechanics.
For the PlayStation VR2, Hitman World of Assassination will also unveil “positional interactions,” which immerse players further by requiring them to physically replicate real-world actions. Instead of merely pressing a button, players might find themselves performing actions like typing on a keyboard or pouring poison into a glass from a vial. Items within quests will now remain tactile, allowing players to examine them closely, like swiping a keycard or turning a lock.
Come March 27, 2025, Hitman World of Assassination will become available on PlayStation VR2. It’s being released as a paid upgrade for players who own the PS5 version of the flatscreen game, priced at $10.
