Why I Recommend the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Headset
Dell’s new “Pro” headset joins ranks with the Alienware Pro Wireless Gaming Mouse and Keyboard, completing the accessory package for 2024. I wasn’t exaggerating in my review when I dubbed it “the best wireless gaming headset I’ve used in years,” overshadowing even my past Razer favorites like the Kraken V3 Pro HyperSense and the Kaira Pro.
What truly sets this headset apart is its microphone. Razer headsets, while impressive, tend to have "just OK" mic quality in comparison. But with the Alienware Pro, your voice is captured cleanly and clearly, which is crucial for me given how often I connect with friends on Discord for late-night gaming. Its AI-driven noise cancellation might be a touch overzealous, yet even when it’s disabled, the mic impressively filters out background noise.
The audio quality is an absolute treat, thanks to the 50mm graphene-coated drivers boasting a vast 20-40KHz frequency range. Low, mid, and high frequencies all resonate with clarity, and those who enjoy cranking up the volume won’t be disappointed. The power of these speakers surpasses any current Razer offerings, despite lacking haptic feedback tech like HyperSense or Sensa HD Haptics.
In terms of fit, the headset is a bit tighter than the spacious Razer models I’m used to, but it feels lighter — a compromise I find quite acceptable. Its adjustable headband lets it accommodate any head size, while the plush memory foam earcups ensure comfort throughout extended gaming sessions. Personally, I still have a soft spot for Razer’s cooler and roomier ear pads, but the Alienware Pro comes very close in comfort.
Alienware chose a sleek, minimalistic design for this headset, steering clear of flashy RGB effects. Available in “Lunar Light” white or “Dark Side of the Moon” black, its rounded design is both simple and elegant. The headset boasts several convenient controls, like a volume wheel, mic mute button, and toggles for active noise canceling (ANC). Switching between 2.4GHz wireless and Bluetooth has been seamless, and battery life impressively nears the 70-75 hour mark with ANC turned off. It even offers a wired option if needed.
While I do find it inconvenient that it doesn’t support Xbox consoles and its ANC is rather average, these aren’t major drawbacks for me since I hardly use my Xbox and generally avoid ANC. If these points are dealbreakers for you, exploring other top-rated PC gaming headsets might be worth your while. However, if that’s not an issue, you’re in for a delightful experience with this product, especially at its current discounted price of $199.99 at Dell. I haven’t looked back at my Razer collection since giving this a try, and frankly, I doubt I will.
