If you’re a fan of Splitgate, it’s time to get excited because the sequel to this popular shooter is opening up for playtest sign-ups soon.
Every now and then, a shooter comes along that becomes an unexpected hit. That’s exactly what happened with Splitgate back in 2021. It seemed to burst onto the scene out of nowhere with its indefinite beta phase. Though, to be fair, it had been floating around in early access for a couple of years before that. Then in the following year, when the game officially launched, the developers at 1047 Games dropped a juicy tidbit: they were halting new features for the current game to put all their energy into creating a sequel using Unreal Engine 5!
Earlier this year, the veil was lifted on this sequel with the developers targeting a release sometime in 2025. And now, through their official Twitter page, they’ve announced that you can sign up to join the next playtest.
“Gear up for more Splitgate 2!” the playtest announcement tweet enthusiastically declares. “We’ve been working on something big, and we can’t wait to hear what you think.” Signing up is straightforward; it involves filling out a Google form with questions like whether you played the original game, which recent shooters you’ve enjoyed, and what platform you prefer.
There’s one minor detail, though—it asks for your Steam and Discord usernames. The Steam ID is probably crucial as that’s likely where the playtest will happen. So, if you’re a bit shy about sharing such details, you might have to pass on this one.
And just last month, Connor from our team had a chat with the CEO of 1047 Games about keeping the game fresh and what they’ve learned from iconic titles like Halo Reach. It’s definitely worth a read!
