Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has just dropped its latest DLC, “Secrets of the Spires,” and it’s now available for players with a Season Pass. This new expansion is packed with exciting features, including fresh achievements, an entirely new map region, a captivating storyline, and more. With today’s release, we’ve pretty much reached the limit of what we know about Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s post-launch content. It’ll be worth watching to see if this addition boosts its reputation as one of the top open world experiences on Xbox.
Secrets of the Spires is officially here, following a brief delay. This is the second storyline package available to those holding a Season Pass for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. The download sits at around 17.5GB for Xbox Series X|S users and brings a new map area, the Spires of the Clouded Forest. Players can look forward to new skills, gear, and a thrilling story campaign. While it builds on the main game’s narrative, you can choose to dive straight into Secrets of the Spires without finishing the main game.
Ubisoft promises epic aerial showdowns in the Spires of the Clouded Forest, a breathtaking mountain region in Pandora’s Western Frontier. This update lets players explore a brand-new open world, tailored to enhance the exhilaration of flying with your ikran. You’ll get to disrupt RDA convoys using fresh ikran skills and a new mounted weapon, team up with a Na’vi clan in a fierce struggle against a new RDA threat, and explore the vertical landscapes teeming with hidden dangers in the new region’s canyons and caves.
The DLC also introduces five new achievements. Below, we’ll delve into what’s new in the update as detailed in the patch notes.
In the Secrets of the Spires, players will discover a fresh map area featuring locations like the Tangled Peaks, Splintered Arches, and Warrior’s Rise. This update offers more than just new settings; deepen the connection with your ikran by unlocking new skills and gear, challenge new aerial adversaries, and interact with dynamic flora and fauna while mastering new traversal methods.
As for progression updates, players across all platforms can now use skill points to unlock and upgrade several new abilities for their ikran, such as Ikran Smash, Launch, and Flares. The PlayStation 5 Pro gets a significant performance upgrade, now supporting a 60 FPS Quality Mode for smoother gameplay. Improved internal resolution and the integration of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) enhance both graphics and performance, making full use of the PS5 Pro’s capabilities.
There are a few known tech hiccups to watch for. On PC, a temporary fix has been rolled out for Windows 11 24H2 users facing issues, with more permanent solutions on the horizon. PS5 players might encounter a snag where the Menu Narration doesn’t read “Additional Info” if the reading speed is set below 1.80x. Across all platforms, several minor bugs have been identified, such as issues with quest initiation, map icons loading slowly, and incorrect item displays. These are being worked on, and updates will follow.
As things currently stand, it’s unclear what Ubisoft has in store next for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Ubisoft’s games in 2024 have seen mixed outcomes, and with Star Wars Outlaws delivering consistent patches, it’s anyone’s guess how things will evolve. The previous DLC, The Sky Breaker, was a six to eight-hour adventure, so it’ll be intriguing to see how long players will be engaged with Secrets of the Spires.
Personally, I’m most looking forward to the new ikran content, which has been a highlight of the Pandora experience. There’s an open question about how well Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will manage to sustain interest beyond this DLC, though. For those who loved exploring Pandora, the ikran enhancements are a promising touch. And given that early aerial combat needed some polish, I’m eager to see how this new DLC rounds out those sky-high battles.
