PlayStation’s Hideaki Nishino has expressed his excitement over the strong sales of the PS Portal, declaring it a significant achievement for the company. He emphasized that this handheld device is part of Sony’s broader vision to bring PlayStation experiences directly to players, and he hinted at even more innovations coming down the line. In a conversation with the BBC, Nishino revealed that the newly introduced cloud streaming feature on the PS Portal is just the beginning.
### Encouraging Signs for a New PlayStation Handheld
With recent reports swirling around, the BBC pressed Nishino and co-CEO Hermen Hulst about the possibility of a forthcoming PlayStation portable console. Though they skillfully avoided any direct confirmation, Nishino acknowledged that gaming habits are rapidly evolving. This shift in how people engage with games was a major factor in the launch and impressive performance of the PS Portal.
“We’ve just rolled out a beta program for direct cloud streaming to the handheld,” Nishino shared. “We’re continuously exploring different avenues to enhance how our players enjoy their games.”
Rumors have surfaced suggesting that after a period away from the portable gaming scene, Sony is actively experimenting with a new handheld device. Prototypes may already be in development. The triumphant reception of the PS Portal seems to have spurred this initiative, especially as the gaming giant seeks to keep pace with Microsoft, which has been vocal about its own plans for an Xbox handheld. Clearly, Sony has no intention of falling behind as the PS6 era approaches.
