Stress Level Zero has truly outdone itself on Quest with BONELAB (2022), yet there’s been a bit of a wait for the arrival of its highly acclaimed predecessor, BONEWORKS (2019), on Meta’s standalone hardware. But fans, rejoice—this is all set to change soon.
For those unfamiliar with its PC VR adventures, Boneworks is a narrative-driven VR experience that plunges players into the heart of action and adventure. Featuring cutting-edge experimental physics mechanics, it pushes players to navigate intense environments, engage in physics-driven combat, and solve puzzles with creativity.
Brandon Laatsch, co-founder of the studio, recently shared some exciting plans for 2025 via a post on X. The team is not just rolling out patches for their internally-developed Marrow Engine within the Unity framework; they’re also gearing up for the long-awaited release of Boneworks on Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Take a peek at what Boneworks looks like running on Quest 3:
On top of all this, Laatsch revealed that the production of Marrow 2.0 and Boneworks for Quest 3 are happening side-by-side. They’re also diving into early groundwork for an upcoming game.
Interestingly, if you’re already rocking a Quest 2 or newer, you can try Boneworks thanks to a fan-made mod known as ‘Labworks’.
Respectably, the studio has decided to keep this beloved mod up and running. Created over two years by indie modder ‘volx64’, Labworks won’t be vanishing anytime soon. Laatsch points out that the Marrow Engine is set to bring more transformative changes to Boneworks than just a straightforward port.
Although there isn’t a confirmed release date yet, we’re eagerly watching Laatsch’s profile on X and keeping tabs on the studio’s YouTube channel for any updates that come our way.
