SNEG has finally nailed down a launch date for the much-anticipated adventure game Captain Blood on the Nintendo Switch.
Originally set to make its debut on Xbox 360 back in 2010, the game’s release was put on ice when its publisher went belly up, and legal hurdles stopped the developer from taking matters into their own hands. Fast forward 15 years, and those obstacles are now a thing of the past.
Here’s the scoop: when the magistrate’s daughter is kidnapped, desperation pushes him to swallow his pride and call upon Captain Blood and his crew for help. As the story unfolds, you’ll step into the boots of perhaps the most daring pirate captain to ever sip grog and woo maidens along the Spanish Main. Brace yourself for adventures full of cannon blasts, pistol duels, thrilling sword fights, and all kinds of pirate escapades.
Artem Shchuiko, SNEG’s co-founder, elaborates on the game’s nostalgic appeal: "Captain Blood is our heartfelt tribute to a bygone era of gaming. Back then, you could spend a weekend engrossed in a linear, QTE-heavy game and still have a debate about the next-gen consoles,” Shchuiko shares. “The love and passion poured into this project, from the original development crew to our team at SNEG Ltd, is incredible. We’re bringing a long-awaited pirate adventure to gamers old and young, and it’s going to be epic!”
The game’s standout features have been highlighted by the developers and include:
-
Epic Pirate Shenanigans: Embrace the role of Captain Blood and embody the most fearless pirate on the Spanish Main—or at least put on a convincing act.
-
Retro Gaming Vibes: With crisp graphics reminiscent of the Xbox 360 era, the game offers quick-time events and features updated to preserve their classic charm.
-
Intense Action: Engage in heated hand-to-hand combat, laying the smackdown on enemy pirates and landlubbers with an arsenal of combat techniques.
-
Ship Deck Brawls: As enemies attempt to board your ship, stand your ground with specialized moves, combos, and executions, while devastating opposing ships using your cannons.
- Arsenal of Awesomeness: Equip yourself with an array of pirate weaponry including cutlasses, pistols, muskets, throwing knives, and even hand bombs. And don’t forget those cheeky pirate tricks!
Mark your calendars: Captain Blood is slated for a digital release on the Nintendo eShop for the Nintendo Switch worldwide on May 6, 2025.
