NVIDIA enthusiasts might find themselves in for a wait when it comes to snagging the RTX 5090 and 5080 GPUs, especially if they’re hoping to grab one from Overclockers UK.
The release of the NVIDIA RTX 50 series didn’t go as smoothly as one might hope, with many dubbing it a ‘paper launch.’ Some retailers didn’t receive any RTX 5090 GPUs at all, never mind a large quantity, and places that did have a few sold out almost instantly. The RTX 5080 wasn’t much easier to find, despite being slightly more available, though it didn’t bring much in terms of performance improvements over its predecessors.
For those eager to get their hands on these cards, patience is key. Overclockers UK has stopped taking pre-orders for both the RTX 5090 and 5080, meaning you can’t even reserve one no matter how long you’re willing to wait. But when can we realistically expect these to be back on the shelves?
According to Overclockers UK, the RTX 5090 might be restocked within 3 to 16 weeks, while the RTX 5080 could make its return in about 2 to 6 weeks. If it takes the full 16 weeks for the RTX 5090, that would place its availability just before mid-2025, around May. By then, NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 will already have launched and hit the market, with the 5070 Ti debuting on February 20 and the 5070 following in March.
They recently announced, “Due to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch with some pre-orders taken in restricted quantities.” Current estimates suggest getting a hold of the RTX 5090 in 3-16 weeks and the RTX 5080 in 2-6 weeks.”
Regarding the RTX 5080, there’s a chance it could be available again in about a month. While it was seen in more stores worldwide than the 5090, demand still far exceeded supply. Despite not offering significant performance updates, the RTX 5080’s maintained pricing akin to the RTX 4080 Super led to a flurry of eager buyers.
In fact, the demand was so intense that some enthusiasts resorted to camping outside stores, and certain retailers even held lotteries for the chance to purchase these highly sought-after GPUs at a premium. For those who pre-ordered through Overclockers UK but haven’t received a confirmation email, there’s a risk your order might be stuck in limbo.
This shortage has led the retailer to halt all new pre-orders for now. Although it’s uncertain when exactly the RTX 5090 and 5080 will return to stock worldwide, it’s clear that it won’t be happening immediately. If you’re set on purchasing one, it might be wise to explore alternative retailers or simply sit tight for now.
