Ancient Dungeon VR, the captivating rogue-lite dungeon crawler, has received a much-anticipated update on PSVR 2, introducing the multiplayer co-op mode fans have been waiting for.
Released back in 2021 through Steam Early Access and the now-retired App Lab for Quest, Ancient Dungeon VR was crafted as a solo journey. Players could immerse themselves in more than 20 hours of adventure through winding dungeons, facing off against blocky wizards, skeletons, and other traditional D&D-style enemies with physics-driven combat.
In mid-2024, Quest and SteamVR players got the chance to team up in four-player co-op, but PSVR 2 enthusiasts were left out when the game launched on their platform in December 2023.
Now, the game’s developer, Eric Thullen, has unveiled the eagerly awaited multiplayer update for PSVR 2 users. This allows up to four players to join forces in tackling the game’s procedurally generated dungeons, navigating traps, and battling foes together.
Addressing fans during a Reddit Q&A, Thullen mentioned that while cross-play isn’t available across platforms right now, it’s in the works. He assured that cross-play compatibility with Quest and PC VR will be introduced sometime down the line.
Ancient Dungeon VR stands as one of the notable indie achievements in the VR space. It initially gained momentum with a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2020 and later captured attention with its well-received beta version, which amassed over 1,000 reviews and achieved an impressive 4.8/5 rating.
Fast forward nearly five years, and the game continues to evolve with consistent updates, adding new weapons, cosmetics, insight upgrades, dungeon floors, and relics. These updates come as Thullen and his team prepare for the game’s major 1.0 release, a milestone they noted in a Steam update as still “a ways to go.”
For those eager to dive into the adventure, Ancient Dungeon VR is available for purchase at $20 on Steam for PC VR headsets, the Horizon Store for Quest, and the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2.
