Oh no, it’s official. Helldivers 2’s Meridia black hole has obliterated the planet that had been its ominous target—Angel’s Venture has met an explosive end. In response, Arrowhead has announced a period of mourning for the citizens who’ve perished.
For a while, it seemed inevitable that Angel’s Venture was doomed. With evacuation orders already in place, the dramatic end was sealed when that ominous big purple black hole moved on its path towards Super Earth, erasing it in a dazzling display.
Arrowhead made it official with a tweet featuring a news broadcast, stating, “Angel’s Venture has been torn apart by the Meridian Singularity.” This let everyone who wasn’t a firsthand witness know about the catastrophe. They further commented, “The Illuminate, those who’ve long pretended to be the epitome of intelligence and sophistication, have finally shown their true nature: they crave destruction.” Consequently, the President of Super Earth has declared a 24-hour Galaxy-wide mourning period.
This is quite the somber moment for helldivers everywhere, even if the spectacle was visually awesome. The tragedy is undeniable. Take, for instance, a Reddit user known as ‘DickBallsley,’ who had confidently assured others that they could save Angel’s Venture all by themselves, saying, “Y’all acting as if I would let that happen” just the other day.
Now, with hands in the air, they’ve returned to express their regrets, writing, “I’m sorry everyone, I might have overdone it.” They admitted, “Going all out was not the best idea. Next time I’ll read what it says on the packet, this one’s on me.”
Of course, their fellow divers couldn’t resist responding with the classic Obi-Wan Kenobi ‘You were the chosen one’ GIF.
While everyone comes to terms with the loss, the fight is far from over. The Meridian Singularity now has Super Earth in its sights, and several more planets could become its next meals. The mission of the moment will likely focus on slowing it down and thwarting further Illuminate attacks. Here’s hoping our next effort proves more successful than the tragedy we’ve just witnessed.
