Astro’s Playroom has caught fans off guard with its latest update, featuring the introduction of the PS5 Pro and a selection of new PlayStation accessories within the game’s beloved gacha machine. Originally launched over four years ago, Astro’s Playroom has remained a fan favorite, and Team Asobi has delighted players with intermittent updates ever since.
Back in 2020, Astro’s Playroom made its debut as a pre-installed gem exclusively for the PS5. Primarily designed to showcase the innovative features of the DualSense controller, this charming platformer set the stage for the hugely successful Astro Bot, released in 2024, which went on to earn multiple Game of the Year accolades. Although Astro Bot has somewhat overshadowed Astro’s Playroom, Team Asobi clearly hasn’t forgotten about the lovable robot’s earlier adventure, as evidenced by this recent addition of fresh content.
In a post noted by Twitter user realradec, it appears February 2025 brought an unannounced update to Astro’s Playroom, introducing the PS5 Pro as a new artifact for players to discover. In this game, players can collect various “Artifacts” from the gacha machine, allowing them to unlock and, subsequently, display oversized PlayStation memorabilia in the PlayStation Labo area. Alongside the PS5 Pro, new additions include the PS5 Pulse Elite Headset and Pulse Explore Earbuds. Additionally, this update also spruced up the game’s startup cover art. This isn’t the first surprise addition since the game’s launch either—an in-game Astro Bot party previously celebrated the global release of that title.
With the inclusion of the PS5 Pro as an artifact, there’s no shortage of incentives for players to jump back into Astro’s Playroom. Not only does it provide an easy-to-obtain platinum trophy on PS5, but achieving 100% completion across all levels feels incredibly gratifying. However, it is worth mentioning that while Astro’s Playroom now features the PS5 Pro in-game, it wasn’t part of the initial wave of titles to benefit from PS5 Pro enhancements, even though the game comes pre-installed on every PS5 Pro.
Though this recent update for Astro’s Playroom is relatively modest, Team Asobi has been more forthcoming about promoting new DLC content for Astro Bot. They’ve kicked off with two fresh levels on February 13 and 20, committing to releasing a new level each week until March 13. Once players conquer all DLC levels, they’ll unlock a new mode called Time Attack. Although future updates for Astro’s Playroom remain uncertain, the phenomenal success of Astro Bot suggests more exciting features will be rolled out for that game.
Astro’s Playroom offers a delightful journey, brought to life by the impressive capabilities of the DualSense™ Wireless Controller. It’s a vibrant, interactive adventure that allows players to engage playfully with the rich history of the PlayStation® universe, collecting fascinating artifacts to showcase in the beloved PlayStation Labo. As anticipation grows for any future updates, fans continue to enjoy Astro’s whimsical world and its charming nods to gaming history.
