Blizzard has quietly surprised Diablo 4 players by extending the duration of Season 7, also known as the Season of Witchcraft, until April 29, instead of the originally anticipated April 15 end date. This season brought fresh elements like Witchcraft Powers and Occult Gems, which have spiced up the combat scenarios and enhanced gameplay overall.
The update initially rolled out on January 21, introducing new questlines and the delight of Occult Gems. While it injected excitement and novelty into the game, not all fans have been thrilled—some wished for more elements that were seemingly overlooked. Nonetheless, the current season has been captivating enough to keep most players engaged up to this point, and they’ll have to hold on a bit longer before experiencing Season 8.
Players first noticed the new end date while checking in-game, and soon after, Blizzard’s Rod Fergusson confirmed this extension. He revealed that Season 8 is taking “a couple of weeks longer to bake” than previously planned. While it’s disappointing to linger in Season 7, Fergusson did drop an enticing hint about an upcoming old “friend” that players can expect to see—sparking curiosity and speculation among the community.
Blizzard’s history of delayed deadlines isn’t new to dedicated fans; the anticipated second expansion for Diablo 4 has already been pushed to 2026, deviating from the developer’s earlier promise of releasing a major expansion each year. Delays are somewhat of a staple in the realm of live-service games, but fans hold hope that the updates and the new season will justify the wait.
It’s natural for fans to feel let down by slip-ups like this, but considering the long-term support that Blizzard plans for Diablo 4, it might not be too big of a deal in the long run. Just like Diablo 3, which is cruising through its 34th season, Diablo 4 seems poised for enduring support. So, a minor delay here and there could be seen as just bumps on a very long gaming road ahead.
