Sony has just made an exciting announcement for virtual reality fans: starting next month, the price of the PSVR 2 is dropping to $400. This means more gamers can now experience virtual reality with their PS5 and PC at a price that’s a bit easier on the wallet.
The PSVR 2, originally priced at $550 when it launched nearly two years ago, didn’t make much noise during its recent anniversary. And notably, Sony didn’t mention it at all during their big State of Play event last month. Despite this, Sony has decided to reduce the price significantly to $400/€450/£400/¥66,980, starting in March.
Here’s an interesting twist: the new price reduction applies to both the standard PSVR bundle, which packs in the headset, two Sense controllers, and headphones, as well as the Horizon Call of the Mountain hardware bundle, initially launched at $600 in February 2023.
If you’ve been on the fence about diving into VR, now might be the perfect time. Last November, Sony gave shoppers an early treat with a price cut on the Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle down to $350, hinting there could be even better deals on the horizon.
Sony is also promoting some major content coming to the PSVR 2, which includes Skydance’s Behemoth, Metro Awakening VR, and Alien: Rogue Incursion. Plus, players can look forward to upcoming titles like Aces of Thunder, Dreams of Another, Hitman World of Assassination, and The Midnight Walk. However, the company hasn’t fully embraced the platform like they did with their original PSVR in 2016.
For PSVR 2, Sony has released some notable games but not at the same volume, with titles like Horizon Call of the Mountain, and VR modes for Gran Turismo 7, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Compare that to the original PSVR, which saw strong support with games like Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Blood & Truth, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, and many others including VR modes for popular games.
On a positive note, Sony has expanded the PSVR 2’s capabilities with a $60 PC adapter released in August, allowing players to dive into PC gaming worlds like Half-Life: Alyx and Fallout 4 VR. Yet, this could signal the start of Sony further separating PSVR 2 from being solely tied to their PS5.
With these changes, we can expect potential discounts in the future, similar to the generous deals seen during the holiday season. If we get another 42% off like during Black Friday, that would bring the PSVR 2 down to a tempting $232—a steal for VR enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
Update (February 27th, 2025): The Euro price has been updated to €450, corrected from the initially reported €550.
