Blade Chimera, crafted by PLAYISM, Team Ladybug, and WSS Playground, offers an exceptional Metroidvania experience that you absolutely must try on the Nintendo Switch. Let’s delve into the reasons why this game stands out in our Blade Chimera review!
In Blade Chimera, you step into the shoes of Shin, a demon hunter grappling with amnesia. Interestingly, you pair up with Lux, a demon who can transform into a sword, a curious choice of partner for a demon hunter. However, Lux proves to be incredibly versatile, capable of attacking foes, shielding you from harm, and even transforming into a platform to reach otherwise inaccessible areas as you navigate the cyberpunk landscape of Osaka.
As soon as you fire up the game, you’re plunged into action, guiding Shin with either the left analog stick or the D-Pad. Jump with the A button and unleash attacks with B. Your secondary attack varies based on your equipped items, activated with the Y button. The L button is your go-to for dodging incoming threats, while pressing the R button unleashes your equipped skill, at the cost of some MP.
Lux is controlled with the X button, and her abilities are wide-ranging. Whether attacking, forming barriers, becoming a large object for protection, or transforming into a platform, Lux is crucial to your gameplay. Lux can grapple onto walls, offering a unique platforming experience, and defeating enemies with her can even restore some of your HP, a lifeline in your journey.
As you battle your way through relentless demons and formidable bosses, you’ll earn experience points. Gather enough, and you’ll level up, enhancing your stats, boosting both your attack and defense capabilities. Exploring every nook and cranny is essential to finding special items that raise your maximum HP and MP.
Currency collected from vanquished foes is your key to valuable purchases. Stock up on Life Elixirs to restore HP, Energy Drinks to replenish MP, or other handy items like the Miracle Mix for curing status effects. You can also buy weapons or gear to enhance your abilities or sell items for extra cash. For additional earnings, keep an eye on side missions offered by HQ.
Earning Skill Points with each level up allows you to unlock crucial abilities, furthering your Metroidvania adventure. Develop skills like the Air Dash to navigate wider gaps or the double jump for reaching higher platforms, mastering the art of exploration.
This game invites you to embrace every encounter, as victory means experience points, money for purchases, and potential item drops from enemies. These could range from simple healing candy to formidable weapons. Personally, I struck gold with an unexpected drop of a Chakram, a significant upgrade over what was previously available.
Blade Chimera is ready for action on the Nintendo Switch, priced at $19.99, promising an enthralling adventure that Metroidvania fans won’t want to miss. This review is informed by my hands-on experience with a Nintendo Switch copy provided by PLAYISM.
