Warner Bros has reportedly made the decision to cancel an expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to Bloomberg, this expansion was initially planned to release alongside a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter-themed action RPG, featuring new storylines to enrich the gaming experience.
The cancellation seems to have been driven by concerns over the content’s value; there wasn’t enough new material to justify its price tag. The original developer, Avalanche Software, was working on this expansion, along with Rocksteady. Meanwhile, Avalanche is also rumored to be developing a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.
Rocksteady, on the other hand, has recently faced some challenges. The studio announced layoffs following its decision to cease support for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, slated for release in 2024.
Last year, Warner Bros acknowledged that their gaming division was not meeting expectations financially. In that same timeframe, they wrote off $200 million related to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. The company has also shuttered three of its studios, including Monolith. Adding to the shakeup, their long-time leader, David Haddad, has recently stepped down.
