With the PS5 now taking the reins as the go-to console for PlayStation enthusiasts, the PS4 is starting to see the curtain fall on its support for several games, including a beloved MMORPG. Fortunately, players of this game won’t be left in the lurch, as they’ll have the opportunity to switch to the newer version without any additional cost.
## Black Desert Online’s Era on PS4 is Ending
Pearl Abyss has announced that it will soon be bidding farewell to the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Black Desert Online. Although this might come as a shock to some, players still have a few months to enjoy their adventure before the game shifts exclusively to the latest-gen consoles. The big transition is set for June 26, coinciding with routine maintenance. Thanks to thoughtful planning from the developers, all players can smoothly transfer their accounts to the updated version with all their progress and purchases intact.
In addressing the transition, Brian Choi, Black Desert Console’s Live Service Manager, reassures the community, “Your game data will be securely preserved. When you decide to make the switch to the PS5 or Xbox Series version, your account details and all your Black Desert perks will be ready and waiting. We acknowledge this shift might not be the news everyone was hoping for. Still, our commitment has always been to enhance the gameplay experience consistently.”
Choi further elaborates, “Despite our relentless efforts to optimize and roll out fresh content for the older systems, we’ve hit a wall. The limitations of the aging hardware have made it increasingly tough to ensure a seamless introduction of the latest updates. After much deliberation, we’re convinced that focusing on the PS5 and Xbox Series editions will allow us to deliver a more stable and superior gaming experience.”
When Black Desert Online debuted in the US back in 2016, it stirred a mix of opinions. The game achieved an average score of 73 on Metacritic, based on feedback from 35 critics. Its journey on the PS4 and Xbox One began in 2019.
