ILM and Lucasfilm have recently unveiled a glimpse of their upcoming game for the Quest 3, titled “Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset.” This intriguing game promises an exciting blend of both virtual and mixed reality experiences.
In collaboration with Meta, a first-look hands-on was offered to attendees at the ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025’, held from April 18-20 in Tokyo, Japan. This event also showcased a teaser that hinted at what’s to come in the gameplay.
Although still in the works, it’s been revealed that “Star Wars: Beyond Victory” will take place during the timeline of the movie “Solo: A Star Wars Story” (2018). When it finally hits the Quest 3 and 3S platforms, the game will introduce players to three distinct modes.
A gameplay screenshot was shared, illustrating the innovative and immersive elements of the game. The image is provided courtesy of ILM, Lucasfilm, and Meta.
The game features a VR/MR hybrid story mode focusing on a podracer named ‘Volo,’ an arcade mode that brings the excitement of mini-podracing to a mixed reality holotable, and a ‘playset’ feature. This playset offers the creative freedom to decorate your real-world environment with a variety of unlockable virtual action figures and vehicles.
Executive Producer Alyssa Finley explained, “We’re calling this a Playset because it isn’t just a game; it’s an entirely new way to experience the Star Wars galaxy and the worlds we create at ILM. This new mixed reality experience blends the physical and digital worlds in a way that’s unlike anything we’ve done before and we’re so excited to share a special first look with our incredible Star Wars community.”
For those who plan to attend the event at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo starting this Friday, there’s an opportunity to try out “Star Wars: Beyond Victory” at the booth run by ILM and Meta Quest, located in Hall 4, Booth #20-5. Additionally, there’s a chance to experience the studio’s previous XR titles like “Vader Immortal” and “Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.”
As of now, no official release date has been announced. However, if it follows the trend of other Star Wars VR creations by ILM, we can expect a steady trickle of updates as the launch approaches, so keep an eye out for more news.
