The buzz around the upcoming Gen 10 Pokémon games is building, with many fans excited about the potential setting in Greece. Rumors suggest that these games will draw on rich Greek mythology, creating opportunities for both new and returning Pokémon designs.
One exciting possibility is Tauros getting a minotaur-inspired evolution. However, this idea might feel excessive, especially since Tauros received new regional forms in Gen 9. While a minotaur evolution could fit the theme well, it might seem unfair to Miltank, Tauros’ counterpart from the Johto region, which hasn’t received similar attention.
Players have speculated that Gen 10 is on the horizon due to multiple reasons, such as the performance issues seen in Gen 9 and the upcoming 30th anniversary of the Pokémon franchise in 2026. Although there’s no official announcement yet, leaks have suggested that the new games are set in Greece. This setting offers the perfect backdrop for a redesign of Tauros, potentially transforming it into a minotaur. Yet, this direction might not be the best choice.
Tauros’ potential evolution is compared often to Bouffalant, but it’s important to remember that they are different species—a bull versus a buffalo. The minotaur, a creature from Greek myths, is part human and part bull, making it a fitting inspiration for Tauros. Still, Tauros has already expanded with three new forms in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which might already be more than enough.
Paldean Tauros has become a prominent player in competitive matches, especially the Blaze and Aqua Breeds, due to their abilities and type combinations. This popularity shows the character’s impact, but adding more evolutions or forms could overwhelm the Pokémon’s character progression.
There’s also the issue of parity with Miltank. Despite its popularity and even meme status thanks to its challenging Gym Leader battle in Gen 2, Miltank hasn’t received any form updates or evolutions. Giving Tauros a further evolution without extending the same to Miltank may feel unbalanced.
Considering the classical imagery and lore of the minotaur, any new evolution would likely have Fighting as a type, which overlaps with Paldean Tauros’ existing Fighting types. It’s important to keep in mind that the Greek setting and any new evolution concepts are currently just rumors, and fans should stay skeptical until official information is released.
