Ever since Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead introduced the Killzone crossover, fans have been fuming over the steep prices for the new content. In response to the uproar, the studio has decided to offer the next set of gear in the collaboration for free.
Just yesterday, we reported that players were particularly upset about the hefty super credit costs for the new assault rifle and armor set. These items weren’t bundled as a warbond, making them quite pricey.
Originally, CEO Shams Jorjani and Johan Pilestedt took to social media to justify the pricing decisions. However, realizing the backlash wasn’t subsiding, Arrowhead has moved to placate the community by gifting the second part of the crossover, initially planned for a December 23 release, as a complimentary festive treat starting today.
Arrowhead addressed the situation in a candid Steam post, acknowledging that this first crossover attempt taught them a lot. They noted that feedback from community surveys highlighted a strong desire for crossover content, but the pricing wasn’t sitting well with everyone. The studio plans to revisit their pricing strategy.
Furthermore, the team admitted there were concerns about the longevity of item availability outside their customary Warbond releases, which align with the Helldivers universe. They’ve responded by not only making the new gear available to all players for free in two waves but also by extending the availability of current store items from 5 to 10 days, reducing the fear of missing out as players earn enough Super Credits for the Killzone collectibles.
Arrowhead also revealed they are exploring ways to reintroduce these items permanently. Meanwhile, players can soon unlock the W.A.S.P. stratagem through a major order.
While this gesture is certainly a step in the right direction, Arrowhead still faces the challenge of striking the perfect balance between fair pricing and player satisfaction. After all, it’s the giving season!
