Bigscreen Beyond is making waves in the VR world with its sleek, ultra-light design aimed at providing a truly comfortable experience for long hours of PC-based virtual reality. At a price point of $1,000, or a more manageable $32 per month, this headset catches attention, though it lacks some essentials straight out of the box. It doesn’t come with its own positional tracking or controllers, so you’ll need to use the SteamVR tracking system. This means you’ll have to invest in at least one base station, preferably two, and have your own input devices like Valve Index controllers on hand.
What you’ll find in the box is a headset equipped with a simple cloth strap and surprisingly, no built-in audio. Even a headphone jack is missing, though there’s a USB-C port you can use for attaching audio devices. To enhance both sound and comfort, Bigscreen offers an Audio Strap accessory for $130.
In our review of the Beyond, we were really impressed by how compact and comfortable it is, allowing for multi-hour VR sessions without the face strain you find with other headsets. However, it’s not all roses; the compact lens design brings about some unwanted reflections and blurring, which can be quite distracting. Despite these hiccups, Beyond is setting the stage for a new generation of headsets that prioritize comfort, with many others looking to follow in its footsteps.
