Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Release on Xbox, Closed Alpha Launching This Month

Bungie has finally given us a detailed peek into their upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, as they’ve just released the first full look at its gameplay. This much-anticipated game is set to hit Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23rd, 2025.

In Marathon, you’ll dive into the action by choosing a Runner, which are cybernetic mercenaries, each boasting unique abilities. You’ll team up with as many as three other players to take on the challenges presented by hostile AI security forces and rival Runner teams. As you make your way through, you’ll gather weapons, implants, and equipment, all of which you get to keep if you manage to survive the chaos.

The premise is simple yet intense: ride on a team of up to three, plunge into a zone, and loot as much as possible before making it out alive. You’ll face various threats, including AI security, and possibly clash with other player teams. If you make it out in one piece, whatever you’ve gathered is yours for the next adventure. Plus, if you’re looking for a more solitary challenge, you can choose to go it alone, tackle entire teams, and escape with all that precious loot on your own.

While the launch is still a while away, there’s an opportunity to get an early taste. A Closed Alpha is set to kick off on April 23rd. Interested players should jump onto the official Marathon Discord server to sign up.
