Creative Fan Unveils Clever Alternate Form for Crustle in Pokémon

A creative Pokemon fan has reimagined Crustle, merging it with a recognizable RPG enemy to deliver a fresh take on the familiar form. The redesign is captivating, but within the Pokemon universe, it might make a chilling encounter.

Pokemon’s growth over time has seen the introduction of completely new species and various new forms and evolutions. Familiar transformations like Gigantamax, Mega Evolutions, and Terastallization reflect this expansion. Some Pokemon, like Gimmighoul, have found their way into alternate forms, showing just how different two Pokemon from the same species can be.

In this intriguing twist, the fan artist known as Matratzfratz draws inspiration from Gimmighoul and revamps Crustle accordingly. The redesign morphs Crustle’s rock into a treasure chest for its Chest Form. Unlike Gimmighoul’s polished appearance, the treasure chest here is rundown, hinting at old loot, with Crustle adopting features akin to a pirate, such as claws shaping into hook-like pincers. Matratzfratz also provides a glimpse into an evolved form for its unevolved counterpart, Dwebble, called the “Hadal Form,” resembling an antiquated diver’s helmet. The fan-made Crustle variation is classified as Bug/Water-type, with its chest designed to ensnare and slowly digest unsuspecting divers—certainly a sinister and enticing concept, though not entirely unprecedented in Pokedex entries.

Pokemon fans seem to appreciate this Chest Form take on Crustle. The artist has received positive feedback, along with some suggestions and interpretations. One fan proposed that Crustle doesn’t necessarily need to be a Water-type simply due to its marine theme and suggested a Bug/Grass-type instead. Another player compared this Crustle to a Mimic—a classic RPG monster appearing as a treasure chest that springs to life to attack players—a comparison that most RPG enthusiasts would recognize.
