Devolver Digital is at it again with its trademark style, presenting the Devolver Delayed Awards—a tongue-in-cheek, pre-recorded awards show spotlighting three games being postponed to 2025.
In typical Devolver fashion, the event is brimming with playful sarcasm as they applaud their developers for the “courage and determination to delay their games into the next fiscal year.” Let’s check out the so-called winners and the completely made-up nominees:
Best Inadvertent Tripping Simulator
Best Late-Stage Capitalism Roguelite
Best Glass Demon in a Leading Role
Among the amusingly fictitious categories and imaginary games (I have to say, Windshield Repair Simulator sounds like a blast), the show also featured talks from the developers behind the real games now set for a 2025 release. By the way, Skate Story’s Sam Eng had an unfortunate mishap resulting in a broken arm, so let’s cut him some slack for the delay.
This isn’t Devolver’s first playful jab at release schedules. In 2023, they mimicked the Nintendo Direct format, humorously announcing the postponement of titles like The Plucky Squire, Stick It to the Stickman, Anger Foot, Pepper Grinder, and Skate Story.
Although it’s surely challenging from a business standpoint to navigate these delays, it’s refreshing to see Devolver prioritizing the developers’ creative visions over rushing unfinished games to market for quick profits.
Meanwhile, on Devolver Digital’s official site, several other anticipated games such as Possessor(s), Tenjutsu, Human Fall Flat 2, and Forestrike are listing as "coming soon," still waiting for their official release dates.
