The Binary Mill, an indie XR studio, has some great news for virtual reality enthusiasts: their space-mining adventure, “Into Black” (2024), is set to expand its horizons. Originally exclusive to Quest, this thrilling game will soon be available on PSVR 2, offering a Deep Rock Galactic-inspired experience that’s hard to resist.
When the game first launched on Quest back in October, it captured players with its focus on resource scavenging, tool upgrades, and ship repairs. With over 20 distinct levels set across various biomes, players get to face fierce foes as they collect the necessary parts to escape a perilous alien planet.
But that’s not all. For the PSVR 2 release, they’ve got an exciting addition: the ‘Singularity’ mode. This PvPvE feature sets you against up to 11 other players in a tense, competitive online scenario. Teaming up is crucial as players navigate a constantly shrinking environment, but a word of caution—overconfidence and greed could spell downfall.
“Into Black” isn’t just making a simple leap to PSVR 2; it’s receiving a significant upgrade too. Expect environments that have been remastered, along with enhanced lighting including dynamic lights and shadows. The game also benefits from cutting-edge technology like HDR, eye-tracked foveated rendering, and sophisticated haptics, all thanks to PS Sense’s adaptive triggers and the PSVR 2’s headset rumble feature.
However, there’s one thing that might disappoint fans: cross-play with Quest won’t be available right at the launch. We’ve confirmed this with the studio (details in the update below).
Update: The studio confirmed to Road to VR that cross-play with Quest is not planned for launch.
While we’re eagerly awaiting a comprehensive trailer that highlights the PSVR 2 enhancements, the studio has already shared a few intriguing images (you can see one above) and a couple of engaging GIFs, which give a sneak peek of what PSVR 2 players are in for.
As for the release date, specifics are still under wraps, but The Binary Mill assures us it’s coming “soon”. In the meantime, enthusiasts can add “Into Black” to their wishlists on the PlayStation Store for PSVR 2. Keep your eyes peeled—this is one adventure that promises to be out of this world!
