The community is buzzing thanks to VR modder Holydh’s latest creation: the GTA: San Andreas Definitive Edition – 6DoF UEVR Plugin. This clever mod adds VR support to the Steam version, inviting players to experience San Andreas like never before.
Last year, the much-anticipated VR port of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for Meta’s Quest was postponed indefinitely by Meta and Rockstar. Fans can still explore San Andreas in VR, though, thanks to the tenacious spirit of Rockstar’s modding community. Despite setbacks, such as leaks and job cuts at Rockstar, alongside bumpy launches of the remastered “Definitive Editions” of their classic games, modders have taken it upon themselves to bring GTA to VR.
Holydh’s mod is far from a basic VR adaptation. Instead, it brings a whole new dimension to the game with features like full first-person support, 6DOF motion controls, and enhanced camera dynamics for both gameplay and cutscenes. This transformation leverages an advanced version of modder Praydog’s UEVR injector, which is known for offering VR capabilities to a multitude of Unreal Engine 4.8+ PC games.
Curious about how it all works? You can watch the mod in action through a demonstration, and if you’re eager to dive deeper, the Nexus Mods page provides details, including the workings of UEVR. However, a word of caution: this mod is only compatible with the Steam version of San Andreas Definitive Edition. Sadly, gamers using the Epic Games Store or Rockstar Launcher versions will miss out due to compatibility issues.
Historically, Rockstar has been quick to flex its legal muscles, evident in the case of Luke Ross’s VR mod for Grand Theft Auto 5. Yet, Holydh assures the community that this mod should be on safer ground. It’s freely accessible, eschewing any paywalls that could provoke legal troubles, unlike the Luke Ross mod, which initially required payment.
By pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in gaming, Holydh and the modding community continue to make their mark, bringing innovative experiences to Rockstar enthusiasts everywhere.
