Green Hell VR, developed by Incuvo, has finally released its highly-anticipated co-op mode for the VR adaptation of the renowned open world survival game. This exciting update is now available for those playing on Quest and PSVR 2, providing a long-awaited enhancement to the game’s immersive experience.
Originally announced in April, this co-op mode is set to launch on December 16th. Players who own the game on PSVR 2, as well as on Quest 2, 3, and 3S, will receive this feature as a complimentary update. The new mode allows players to team up in groups of up to four, enhancing the intense survival experience by working together to hunt, defend against formidable jungle predators, and construct shelters against the hostile environment. An interesting aspect is the visual cues that show when a player needs healing, allowing teammates to help out, such as by removing leeches from each other.
However, it’s important to note that the co-op update currently lacks cross-play capabilities across platforms. This means that players won’t be able to engage in cross-platform gameplay between PC-to-VR or Quest-to-PSVR 2. The team at Incuvo acknowledged this limitation in a post on X, explaining their primary focus was on completing the Multiplayer update. They mentioned that tackling cross-play would have further delayed the process, but they are keeping it in mind for future developments.
“Adding co-op to Meta Quest and PSVR2 is a significant move for our VR community. We are aware of how eagerly fans have awaited this since the game’s initial VR launch. Our priority was ensuring that the cooperative survival experience meets player expectations,” said Andrzej Wychowaniec, CEO of Incuvo.
As of now, there are no confirmations regarding the inclusion of the co-op mode in the SteamVR version. Given that the PC VR edition hasn’t seen much activity since a 2022 update, and with the studio focusing on expansions for Quest and PSVR 2, the chances seem slim.
