Star Wars fans, get ready to dive into the galaxy once again, because the first story pack for “Star Wars Outlaws,” titled Wild Card, is now available for Xbox Series X|S gamers. This thrilling new chapter thrusts you into a nerve-wracking game of Kessel Sabacc aboard the casino cruiser, Morenia, where the stakes are sky-high and the rules add an intriguing twist.
Before you can unravel the mysteries of Wild Card, make sure you’ve completed both the Gunsmith quest and The High Roller mission featuring none other than Lando Calrissian. This sets the stage for an adventure full of surprises.
Kay Vess, the protagonist, embarks on a mission from Governor Thorden of Toshara to infiltrate a high-risk Kessel Sabacc table to claim a coveted prize. However, there’s an underbelly to this game, and Kay will need her cunning and street smarts to make her way into the invite-only event.
What makes this Sabacc game stand out is its unique setup. While key mechanics remain – drawing blood and sand cards over three rounds to craft a winning hand – the Morenia’s table hits you with a different vibe. EY-E9, the event’s Protocol Droid and the casino cruiser’s owner, has established her own house rules, notably banning shift tokens, which usually give players an edge. This rule ups the ante, offering everyone a fair chance at victory.
Getting away with cheating is still an option, provided you’re sly enough. Magnetized dice, the Lando-inspired double draw trick, and Nix’s sneaky tactics are your go-to cheats. However, this round, Nix has to stay low-profile, or rather, change his game. In this bustling environment, Nix can now plant cards on opponents, hoping EY-E9 catches them in the act and boots them from the table – a clever twist!
This isn’t the only hurdle. Other players can cheat, too, so Kay must keep a keen eye on their actions and conversations to sniff out any tricks and tip off EY-E9. With more players joining the fray, a total of six sit at the Morenia’s table, increasing the competition.
To help strategize your victory, we caught up with Ubisoft Paris’ game director, Thibaut Machin. He shared insights on maneuvering through these new Sabacc rules to maximize your winnings.
One tactic Machin recommends is leveraging the Lando’s double draw. Typically, you’d use this to get a favorable card, then slip the extra back. But in Wild Card, pair it with Nix’s card-planting ability; keep the better card and let your opponent take the fall.
Finding your way into the game is just the beginning. Morenia is full of clues about fellow players that can expose their cheating methods. “Those clues are your tickets to making big moves,” advises Machin.
And don’t underestimate your reputation either. The casino is crawling with syndicate representatives, and forming alliances or burning bridges can significantly affect Kay’s journey.
Lastly, Machin suggests patience is vital. “Take your time—don’t rush,” he says. With only eight chips and more rounds to get through, strategic play is critical. Listen to the banter, savor the dialogue – it’s all part of the experience.
