I’ve got to say, few games have seen their release dates and windows leak quite as often as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. This highly anticipated remake of MGS 3—considered by many fans as the pinnacle of Hideo Kojima’s stealth series—recently had an August release date sneak onto the PlayStation Store, only to be yanked shortly thereafter. Now, thanks to Sony’s State of Play showcase, we have official confirmation from Konami: that leaked date was right on the money. Metal Gear Solid Delta finally has an official release day.
Last summer, I had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours playing Metal Gear Solid Delta, and I have to say, the dedication to capturing the essence of the original MGS 3 is nothing short of impressive. The game not only looks stunning but Konami has also subtly revamped and modernized some gameplay mechanics, and they’ve done so with a finesse that’s apparent even in this early hands-on experience. The anticipation for this stealth game’s release has felt almost endless, though.
Initially, fans hoped for a 2024 release, especially after the game was mentioned in a PlayStation blog post about exciting upcoming projects for that year. But when the magic year came and went without a launch, the anticipation only grew. An unexpected listing on the PlayStation Store seemingly spilled the beans, and with the State of Play looming, it felt like a near certainty that we’d finally learn the official release date. Sure enough, the guesswork paid off.
During the latest State of Play, Konami has at last confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set to launch on Thursday, August 28.
To stoke the excitement further, Konami dropped a fantastic new trailer showcasing several of Metal Gear Solid 3’s beloved characters, rendered in all-new, breathtaking detail. As you watch, it’s impossible not to remember the sheer number of iconic—and occasionally bizarre—moments that MGS 3 gifted us. Delta: Snake Eater is sure to reignite those fond memories.
While I usually have a soft spot for entirely new PC games over a wave of remasters, I must admit this classic PC game genuinely deserves a new lease on life. As you countdown to its August launch, why not dive into some other epic single-player adventures to help pass the time?
