Onward, the tactical military simulation shooter developed by Downpour Interactive and owned by Meta, is gearing up for a significant 2.0 update. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this, as the last considerable update happened almost a year ago.
Though it might have seemed like Onward was taking a backseat, that’s not entirely the case. Since releasing the notable ‘Mercenary’ update in February 2024, which introduced a PVE mode and various graphics enhancements, updates have been on the lighter side.
Now, Downpour Interactive is ready to roll out the 2.0 update. According to a recent Meta blog post, this update promises to be “its biggest update ever” and will feature a plethora of new content. Gamers can look forward to a “massive graphical overhaul” enhancing both weapons and utilities, along with an exciting new Operator system featuring 20 unique characters and fresh map content. More details are expected to surface “very soon.”
This update comes amidst some turbulence within the gaming industry, notably the significant layoffs at Downpour Interactive in 2023. This shakeup also saw the departure of founder and CEO Dante Buckley, who established the studio back in 2015, just a month before the layoffs occurred.
Originally launched in Early Access on Steam in 2016, and later becoming available on the original Oculus Quest in 2020, Onward has made a name for itself with its realistic squad-based gameplay and an incredibly faithful depiction of real-world firearms.
