Since Iron Meat made waves with its launch in September, the folks over at Retroware have been busy crafting some exciting new updates for this modern twist on a retro classic.
Now, the first major update has hit Xbox, offering up a heap of fresh content for players to devour.
### Mirror, Mirror
Something fans have eagerly awaited is the addition of Mirror Mode. This feature flips all levels to mirror the traditional gameplay, taking the action from right to left. While simple on the surface, it challenges you to rethink and re-tackle each foe and boss with a fresh perspective. To access this mode, you’ll need to complete the game once on any difficulty setting.
### Red Rapid Fire
Another juicy addition is the Supercharge upgrade—an exciting new level of weapon enhancement. What does this mean for players? Once activated, all your weapons beam with a striking red glow, signifying their new power rank above the usual blue or green. If you manage to fully upgrade your arsenal, finding that third weapon will grant you an automatic Supercharge, unleashing rapid-fire havoc with a vibrant red flare.
### My 1UPs, Thank You
In this update, there’s some good news for survivalists: extra lives you earn will carry over as you transition from one level to the next. So, now you can continue the fight with a larger safety net if you finish a level on a high note.
### Visual Enhancements to Level Backgrounds
Some levels are getting a facelift to enhance Iron Meat’s storyline and atmosphere. From helicopter shootouts against Meat monsters in the Forest to new spikes for the midboss at the Base, each detail helps build the narrative. You’ll even spot surviving pilots in the credits and witness explosive impacts from Meat meteors on the Train.
### Other Updates
On top of fine-tuning some minor bugs, here’s what else is new:
– Weapon buffs for the “E”, “U”, and “M” guns.
– More Meat in specific sections of the Moon Base.
– Clearer patterns in the MI-24 helicopter boss fight.
– Adjustments across levels for better balance, such as killable Meat worms on Base and Train’s Meat Mouth Doors.
This first major update offers just a taste of where Iron Meat is headed. Stay tuned for even more additions in the future. Want to jump into the action? Iron Meat is available now!
