And just like that, my long streak of enjoying Nintendo Switch Online for free comes to a close.
One of the beloved features of the Switch is coming to an end, right after the re-release of Xenoblade Chronicles X, and unfortunately, another feature won’t be compatible with the upcoming Switch 2.
In a recent announcement, Nintendo stated that its My Nintendo Gold program will officially cease on March 25 at 12:59 a.m. ET. This program has been a favorite among fans, offering 1% in eShop credit for physical first-party releases during their first year, and a solid 5% back for all eShop purchases. The only caveat is for physical games released between March 25, 2024, and the program’s conclusion. Games like Endless Ocean: Luminous through Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition will still benefit, but unfortunately, titles such as Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond won’t be on the list.
In another update, Nintendo has revised the details on their Switch Online Vouchers page. It turns out these won’t be compatible with Switch 2 games. For those who subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online, these vouchers, priced at $99 US or your local equivalent, allowed you to snag first-party releases with ease. Thankfully, the vouchers will still be a viable option for new releases on the original Switch, including the anticipated Legends Z-A and Prime 4.
