Nintendo has just unveiled some major updates about the next generation of its beloved gaming console, the Switch.
During their Corporate Management Policy briefing, following the announcement of their Q2 2024-25 outcomes, it was revealed that the upcoming console—whatever it may be called—will fully support Switch games. Additionally, Nintendo Switch Online will seamlessly transition to the new system.
In a statement shared by Nintendo Co Ltd on Twitter, Furukawa said, “Today at the Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we disclosed that the successor to the Nintendo Switch will also accommodate Nintendo Switch software. Moreover, Nintendo Switch Online services will continue on the new console. Further details regarding the compatibility of the new console with Switch software will be provided at a future date.”
As for whether this means you’ll be able to pop your physical Switch game cartridges into the new console, akin to how the 3DS supported DS games, remains to be specified. We’ll likely have to wait for a forthcoming announcement to clear up those details.
