At CES 2025, NVIDIA shared some exciting news: they’re expanding their GeForce NOW cloud gaming platform to include support for Apple Vision Pro, Meta Quest 3 and 3S, and Pico headsets. This intriguing development, however, doesn’t encompass cloud-based VR gaming—meaning you won’t be playing VR-native games through the cloud just yet. Instead, this update focuses on enabling access to traditional games typically available on platforms like Windows, Mac, Android, iOS, and handheld devices.
So, what does this mean for those using Vision Pro, Quest 3/S, or Pico headsets? Soon, you’ll be able to stream your favorite games through GeForce NOW right in your headset’s browser. NVIDIA plans to release version 2.0.70 of the platform later this month, offering a seamless gaming experience. And it’s not just about access; it’s about quality. NVIDIA assures gamers that they can look forward to enhanced features like ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS, providing an immersive experience on what they describe as a “massive virtual screen” for gamepad-supported titles.
GeForce NOW is known for its flexible access offerings. While there’s a basic free option, dedicated gamers can dive deeper into higher-quality experiences through daily passes or monthly subscription plans, unlocking an impressive library of over 2,000 games.
It’s worth mentioning that NVIDIA isn’t pioneering the frontier of cloud gaming on standalone VR devices. Back in 2022, Pluto VR tried to chart this territory with PlutoSphere. Despite its innovative approach, Meta pulled the plug on the app store presence by early 2024 as part of a crackdown on unapproved cloud streaming services. In a twist of fate, this paved the way for Microsoft, which got the green light to introduce Xbox Cloud Gaming and its Game Pass library to Quest by the end of 2023.
This move by NVIDIA represents a significant leap in the evolving landscape of cloud gaming, promising to broaden how and where we can engage with our favorite titles.
