In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, players have the chance to unlock the new Sirin 9mm submachine gun early by purchasing a special bundle from the in-game store. Originally, this weapon was intended to be a grand prize as part of the Hit List event. This event encourages gamers to work together, amassing as many eliminations as possible to unlock various rewards. However, many fans are voicing their frustration with Treyarch’s decision to let players skip ahead by simply buying the SMG before the event has concluded.
The Hit List event kicked off on November 21 for both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, offering an array of rewards. Players have until December 5 to earn personal and community-based rewards. Notably, the community must achieve a staggering 50 billion eliminations to unlock the Sirin 9mm SMG. Along the journey, there are numerous bonuses to earn, like a new perk and a scorestreak. Yet, despite the fact that players are still far from hitting the required eliminations, Treyarch has already introduced the weapon in a store bundle for early access.
For those who prefer not to wait, the Sirin 9mm SMG is now available for purchase in the Call of Duty store. On November 26, Treyarch rolled out the Cash Bandit bundle, which comes packed with cosmetics and a blueprint for the highly anticipated SMG. It’s important to note that in Black Ops 6, once a player acquires a weapon’s blueprint, they can unlock the base version of the weapon permanently. This means the Sirin 9mm is obtainable even before the event’s milestone is reached, simply by shelling out 2,800 COD points for the bundle.
Unsurprisingly, the player community hasn’t responded well to this decision. Prominent content creator JGOD expressed disappointment, labeling the tactic “sad” as it effectively places the weapon behind a paywall before the event concludes. Another player, Nick, criticized the move as “scummy,” accusing Treyarch of setting an unattainable community goal only to then monetize a shortcut. Many others have shared the sentiment that the weapon should never have been included in a purchasable bundle.
This isn’t the first time Call of Duty has faced backlash over its microtransaction practices. Recently, Treyarch launched a much-anticipated Replacer bundle, letting fans play as a beloved character from the marketing campaigns. But excitement quickly turned to disappointment when it was revealed that a second variant of this character could only be unlocked by purchasing the additional Blackcell Battle Pass, significantly driving up the cost for players wishing to collect all the associated cosmetics.
