When Sony initially started bringing its exclusive games to PC, there was quite a buzz among gamers. However, the excitement hit a snag when players discovered they’d need a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to access these games. Now, a recent update has brought some relief, as PSN accounts are no longer mandatory for playing select PlayStation titles on PC.
In a PS Blog post, PlayStation’s Asad Qizilbash shared some big news about exciting new in-game bonuses for four popular PlayStation games now available on PC. The games in question include God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, the soon-to-be-released Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. Qizilbash announced that, starting tomorrow, PSN accounts will be optional for these games. However, for players eager to unlock the new in-game perks or earn trophies, having an account will still be necessary.
“Beginning with tomorrow’s PC launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re introducing extra incentives for playing with a PlayStation Network account,” Qizilbash explained. "Titles like The Last of Us Part II Remastered, coming on April 3, 2025, along with God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will soon offer exclusive in-game content for PSN account holders."
“While a PlayStation Network account will be optional on PC for these games,” Qizilbash added, “those who choose to log in will benefit from rewards like trophies and friend management features.”
This update should bring a sigh of relief to PlayStation PC enthusiasts, given the controversy that surrounded the release of Helldivers 2 last year. Although the exclusive rewards may be unavailable, at least players won’t be forced to create an extra account if they don’t want to.
For players who are open to signing up for a PSN account, here are the in-game rewards available for each PlayStation PC title:
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarok: Access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle comprising 500 Hacksilver and 250 XP.
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered: An additional 50 points to unlock bonus features and extras, and Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as an outfit for Ellie.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: Unlock the Nora Valiant outfit.
