Earlier today, FuturLab announced some news that might disappoint fans of PowerWash Simulator VR on Quest. The company’s CEO, Kirsty Rigden, shared that they’re officially pulling the plug on VR support. Despite their fondness for VR and its potential, the harsh reality is that the platform just isn’t bringing in enough cash to justify the costs.
Rigden expressed their genuine love for VR in a heartfelt statement, emphasizing that they’re not ruling out future support but for now, resources are being redirected. The decision was taken with a focus on the financial health of the company and ensuring job security for their team. The VR team is now pivoted to work on new projects, and unfortunately, it’s a move that suggests VR support may not make a comeback.
For those wanting to understand more, here’s a snapshot of the statement: “I’m truly sorry to inform you that we won’t be continuing with PowerWash Simulator VR support. We adore VR and believe in its future, but right now, we can’t keep up support.”
Rigden further explained, “We had a choice: keep a skilled and kind VR team on a platform that costs more than it earns or utilize their talents on new projects. We chose job security for our team every single time, and I believe, if you were in my shoes, you’d make the same call.”
If you’re curious about what’s next, the traditional version of PowerWash Simulator continues to thrive. New DLC additions, such as the Shrek and Wallace & Gromit packs, are on the horizon, though nothing new has emerged for Quest since the June release of Alice’s Adventures Special Pack. Previously, the VR version offered several content updates, featuring partnerships like SpongeBob SquarePants and Back to the Future, along with the Muckingham Files.
For those who still enjoy PowerWash Simulator VR, don’t worry just yet. The game and its current DLC will stay put on the Meta Quest platform, as FuturLab currently has no plans to remove them.
