A massive discount on the PSVR 2 headset propelled its holiday sales on Amazon US to unexpected heights, soaring to nearly five times more than last year’s numbers.
Thanks to a Black Friday and holiday deal, the PSVR 2’s Horizon bundle was marked down by a significant 42%, slashing the US price from $550 to just $350.
As one might guess, such a generous price cut boosted the headset’s sales dramatically, even more than anticipated. During the 2024 holiday rush, PSVR 2 reached nearly five times its peak sales volume on Amazon US compared to what it achieved in 2023.
To be fair, it’s worth noting that there weren’t any major discounts on the headset in the previous holiday season of 2023. Naturally, one might expect that reducing the price by half would lead to a 50% increase in sales, but the PSVR 2 sales far surpassed this expectation, illustrating a unique dynamic between price and demand for the product.
Back in 2024, Sony launched the sale before Black Friday and extended it well past the new year. The longevity of the sale suggests Sony might have been clearing out inventory, possibly gearing up for a new product launch like a refreshed bundle or a more affordable redesign. While whispers circulated that Sony might be ready to abandon the headset, aiming for a clearance sale before shelving it, our perspective is that they’ll continue supporting it at least until the next console generation rolls around. However, they might not push it as aggressively in the market in the meantime.
