Ever since the buzz surrounding the PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 began, it feels like a floodgate has been opened for Xbox games making their way to Sony’s consoles. The grapevine has been abuzz with talk of Marcus Fenix and his ongoing war against the Locust Horde possibly landing on PlayStation systems this year. Now, the chatter suggests that instead of just one game, we’ll see a full collection featuring the first three Gears of War titles, launching together on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
### A Classic Trio: Gears of War Collection Primed for PS5
Word on the street, courtesy of reputable leaker eXtas1s, is that a Gears of War collection is indeed being crafted. While the exact announcement date is still under wraps, eXtas1s claims it’s set to debut on multiple platforms right out of the gate. Excitingly, this release is rumored to include cross-play capabilities, allowing gamers across PC, Xbox, and PlayStation to join forces—or face off against one another.
eXtas1s shared, “I’ve spent a lot of effort verifying the existence of the Gears Collection, and it looks like it’s real. I can confirm that when it finally gets announced—though I can’t predict when—it will launch as a multiplatform title from day one,” he noted, according to a translation by ResetEra member Rychu. He reiterated, “These remasters of the classic Gears games are expected to be cross-platform, letting players compete simultaneously. The one thing I haven’t nailed down is a potential Switch version, but for now, cross-play appears to be a go on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.”
This isn’t the first time whispers have circulated about Gears of War gracing the PS5. Earlier in the month, Jez Corden from Windows Central floated the idea that the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition might make its way to Sony’s console in 2025.
As is the case with all rumors, it’s wise to remain skeptical. Sure, a number of insiders are echoing each other’s claims, but the gaming world is notoriously unpredictable. Projects can pivot or get shelved at the drop of a hat, leaving fans grasping at straws. Until an official announcement is made, we’re all left to wonder and hope.
