Treyarch has finally unveiled the new Zombie map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, called "Shattered Veil," and players will get to dive into the action a bit sooner than planned.
Initially, the Season 3 content for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was scheduled to roll out towards the end of March but got postponed to April 3. Now, Activision has pulled things forward, and the much-awaited Season 3 content for both multiplayer and Zombies mode will be available on April 2. However, if you’re eagerly anticipating the return of Verdansk in Call of Duty: Warzone, you’ll need to hang tight until April 3.
The fresh map pushes forward the Dark Aether storyline that’s been at the heart of Black Ops 6’s Zombies mode. After collecting the Sentinel Artifact, our crew finds themselves at a mysterious mansion nestled in the remote woods of West Virginia, near Liberty Falls. Many suspect this ancient mansion is the very one teased in the original Liberty Falls cinematic. Here, players can deploy new microwave traps to decimate hordes of zombies or use the Dark Aether Field Generator to obliterate enemies using static dark aether energy—just be cautious to avoid being ensnared by your own devices.
Adding to the intrigue, this season’s mansion flaunts a full T-Rex skeleton among its décor—a mere glimpse into the exciting content coming to Zombies with Season 3.
As you explore this eerie estate, new threats emerge. The Elder Disciple, floating ominously around the mansion’s grounds, draws power from its surroundings, strengthening and spawning additional zombies. It can even morph standard zombies into fearsome Doppelghasts or other intense adversaries. Beware of a fresh breed of toxic zombies too, which bring with them a malevolent fog from the mansion grounds. These skeletal, greenish creatures charge at you and explode, leaving nasty acid puddles behind.
Complement these challenges with a nostalgic twist—Season 3 reintroduces the beloved Double Tap perk-a-cola. Returning from the glory days of Black Ops 3, this rapid-fire perk graces Shattered Veil and other Black Ops 6 Zombies maps, obtainable through the Der Wunderfizz machine. Notable augments include:
Major Augments:
- Double Jeopardy: A chance to instantly kill low-health normal zombies.
- Double Impact: Successive hits on the same target increase damage.
- Double Standard: Doubles the damage of non-critical shots, applicable to normal bullet weapons only.
Minor Augments:
- Double Time: Boosts the fire rate bonus.
- Double or Nothing: Offers a chance for weapons to deal double or, conversely, zero damage.
- Double Play: Quickly eliminating two enemies can return ammo to your magazine, exclusive to normal bullet weapons.
For those who fancy wonder weapons, two new ones are making their debut, complete with variants. The Ray Gun Mark II introduces a three-round burst iteration of the classic Ray Gun, with upgrades like SMG-style bullet patterns and potential effects like igniting foes, bludgeoning attachments, shotgun-like spreads granting temporary invulnerability, and a marksman firing style with area-of-effect damage potential. Additionally, the Wunderwaffe DG-2 delivers zapping chain-lightning attacks with the added perk of stunning zombie groups for more damage.
Moreover, expect three fresh Gobblegums, usable on all maps and equippable for extra advantages during those intense horde encounters:
- Tactical Diffusion (Rare): Halts the next Nuke Power-Up explosion you trigger, rewarding you and your team with 2,000 Essence instead.
- Support Group (Legendary): Enjoy a suite of support items, including the ARC-XD, Mangler Cannon, Sentry Gun, and Mutant Injection, by consuming this savory GobbleGum.
- Die Pitched (Whimsical): Alters zombie voices to amusingly high-pitched tones for three minutes.
Relish in the much-missed Death Machine scorestreak, craftable in Zombies for the cost of 1750 salvage.
If you’re eager to delve deeper into the Dark Aether narrative in Zombies but need a helping hand, hold out for the Midseason refresh. It brings Directed Mode to Shattered Veil, a brief Team Cranked mode in Zombies, and the advent of a new Frost Blast field upgrade—so there’s plenty of excitement ahead.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is readily available on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC via Steam, Battle.net, the Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app. A free trial featuring Zombies content is set to launch alongside Season 2 on April 2 at 9 AM PT for all platforms.
