Today, Paramount and Sega surprised us with a brand-new trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3, and it unexpectedly made a nod to the world of Pokémon.
It’s been a while since we got our first glimpse of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but with its release just around the corner, fans have been eagerly awaiting more. If you’re one of those fans, you’re in for a treat! Paramount dropped the second trailer today, and it brought some surprises. There’s a moment that took me by surprise, but in a delightful way—a kid asks if Tails is Detective Pikachu. It’s one of those things that makes you pause, laugh, and then wonder what a crossover like that would look like.
Could we see Sonic characters squaring off against Pokémon? I doubt Sonic would hang out with a hedgehog like Shaymin; he’d probably team up with Jolteon, given their shared high-speed vibe. Or maybe we’ll get to see Knuckles reimagined as a Pokémon. Who can say? Regardless, the trailer is a fun watch, offering an exciting glimpse into the Chao-themed restaurant where Team Sonic hangs out. Honestly, that might be the highlight for me. There’s also a somber moment where we see Shadow with Maria, reflecting on one of Sonic’s more emotional story arcs. It’s sure to tug at the heartstrings of anyone who’s followed Sonic’s adventures over the years.
Beyond the trailers, there’s a lot to anticipate in the movie. Director Jeff Fowler hinted at teasers for characters we might see in future films. While he didn’t spill all the details, I’m placing my bets on a possible appearance by Big the Cat.
