In Suikoden 2, you’re tasked with gathering 108 characters, famously known as the Stars of Destiny, to fight against the might of the Kingdom of Highland. It’s a thrilling adventure, though riddled with challenges, especially since some of these allies are easily missed if you’re not careful. Fortunately, our handy, spoiler-free guide is here to ensure you don’t miss out on any potential comrades.
How Recruitment Functions in Suikoden 2
Unlike its predecessor, Suikoden 2 often requires you to complete short side quests for many characters before they join your cause, adding a layer of complexity to your recruitment efforts. Our guide organizes these characters in the order you can recruit them as early as possible, including any alternate methods where applicable.
Suikoden 2 Recruitment Walkthrough (Spoiler-Free)
We’ve crafted a list of all the characters you could miss in Suikoden 2, as well as some optional figures that don’t contribute towards the 108 Stars of Destiny:
-
Riou: Your journey centers around him!
-
Mukumuku: Check out the large tree north of Riou’s home in Kyaro. If you miss him, wander the road between Two River and Greenhill to chance upon his aid in battle.
-
Nanami, Gengen, and several others join naturally as the story unfolds.
-
Zamza: Have Nanami in your party and chat with him at the Toto Inn, or later find him at South Window Inn.
-
Rikimaru: Stumble upon him in Ryube and cover his 3,000 Potch debt. If you miss out, look for him in Coronet.
-
Millie: Meet her in Ryube and take on Bonaparte in Ryube Forest to win her allegiance.
-
Kinnison and Shiro: While in Ryube Forest, put the baby bird back in its nest, leave, then return to find them.
-
Hanna, Tsai, and others integrate seamlessly as you progress.
-
Tuta: Speak with him at Dr. Huan’s house early on, or he’ll join automatically at your headquarters later.
-
Anita: Engage her in Muse Tavern and complete her tasks. If missed, find her at Banner Village and redo the steps, or just bring Valeria along to simplify things.
-
Templeton and Gilbert: Encounter them during specific missions and opportunities in battle.
-
Ellie, Rina, Bolgan, Viktor, and Flik come on board through the main storyline.
-
Oulan: Assemble a female-only party and confront a lurking gang in Kuskus to win her over with gratitude.
-
Shu, Huan, Luc, among others will automatically be won over as you navigate the narrative.
-
Tai Ho and Yam Koo: Engage Tai Ho in a game of Chinchirorin at Kuskus docks.
-
Richmond, Amada, and Clive join after unique interactions and challenges scattered across towns like Radat and South Window.
- Adlai, Taki, Hans, and others require keen attention and the completion of specific tasks, such as delivering the right items or simply chatting in the right locations.
Special and Optional Characters
Alongside your primary recruits, there are also several optional characters, like Abizboah and Rulodia, who require the use of items like Listening Crystals to entice into your ranks. Additionally, you may find several squirrel allies such as Makumaku and friends through fortunate chance encounters on the road, often needing an open party slot to welcome them.
Tir McDohl Cameo
If you have save data from the original Suikoden, you can embark on a special side quest in Banner Village to temporarily add the legendary Tir McDohl to your roster. Although his stay isn’t permanent, he’s a compelling addition whenever possible.
By adhering to this guide and exploring each new area thoroughly, you can ensure you’re maximizing your roster of allies, each contributing in unique ways to the battle against the Kingdom of Highland. Happy recruiting!
