Most gamers aren’t quite ready to put it down yet, but Baldur’s Gate 3 is gearing up for even more content next year. And it’s exactly the kind of stuff that’ll make hardcore fans dive into yet another playthrough—perhaps their eleventh. As for me, I still haven’t wrapped up my first run.
Through the game’s official social media posts and a Steam blog entry, it was revealed that Baldur’s Gate 3 has not seen its last major content update. Despite Larian insisting they were done with this epic RPG, they seem unable to let it go. It’s much like the developers of Terraria and Binding of Isaac who keep circling back to their projects for years.
The beloved game, reportedly even played by a few in the Vatican, is enjoying a surge in user-generated mods. Yet, Larian isn’t about to let players have all the modding fun—they’re bringing even more goodies to fans.
Looking ahead to next year, Patch 8, which they assure us is the “final” update for real this time, will introduce cross-play, photo mode, and an impressive count of 12 new subclasses. The demand for a photo mode has been high for ages, but cross-play is the surprise addition that makes Baldur’s Gate 3 an ideal social game for endless hours of play. New subclasses suggest fans will be rolling characters anew, appeasing Dungeons & Dragons enthusiasts everywhere.
Cross-play will arrive with full cross-platform progression, ensuring you can dive into any game with friends, regardless of what they’re playing on. Though, exactly how lobbies will be shared—especially with strangers—isn’t fully clear yet.
The incoming photo mode promises a plethora of features: from camera and lens settings to scene modifiers like poses and facial expressions. There’ll even be post-processing effects, frames, and stickers. Combine those with mods, and we’re expecting some creatively wild captures from the community.
Moreover, Patch 8 will sprinkle a new subclass across each of the 12 classes. Here’s a quick look at what’s coming:
– Bard – College of Glamour
– Barbarian – Path of Giants
– Cleric – Death Domain
– Druid – Circle of Stars
– Paladin – Oath of the Crown
– Fighter – Arcane Archer
– Monk – Drunken Master
– Ranger – Swarmkeeper
– Rogue – Swashbuckler
– Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
– Warlock – Hexblade
– Wizard – Bladesinging
Additionally, they’re conducting ‘stress tests’ in January to refine both cross-play and other aspects scheduled for Patch 8. So, it’s safe to assume the complete rollout won’t happen until after February 2025. We’ll continue to bring you updates on this eagerly awaited patch as more information surfaces.
