Exciting news for Pokémon Go fans: the Unova Tour event is stepping up its game with a new headline feature that’s bound to captivate Trainers worldwide.
For the first time, “White Kyurem” and “Black Kyurem,” the legendary Pokémon found on the covers of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, will make their grand entrance into Pokémon Go. These Ice/Dragon typed legends will kick off their appearance at special in-person events, taking place from February 21st to the 23rd in Los Angeles and New Taipei City. Don’t worry if you can’t make it there, as they’ll have a global release slated for March 1st and 2nd.
To achieve the powerful forms of Black and White Kyurem, Trainers will take on challenging raid battles, ranked at the second-highest difficulty. The aim is to secure “Volt Fusion Energy” for Black Kyurem and “Blaze Fusion Energy” for White Kyurem, a process somewhat reminiscent of last summer’s adventures with Dusk Mane and Dawn Wings Necrozma at the Pokémon Go Fest. Key to these fusions is having a Kyurem along with either Zekrom or Reshiram, where Kyurem dictates both the stats and any shiny attributes. If Kyurem happens to have the Glaciate move upon catching, it adds a special twist: fusing it with Zekrom grants “Freeze Shock” and with Reshiram, “Ice Burn”. We’ve asked Niantic whether event-captured Kyurem will automatically include Glaciate for easy fusion.
Initial availability of these energies is exclusive to the specified in-person gatherings, but don’t fret. Trainers from afar can still test their mettle in the raids, albeit with “remote raids” capped at five daily. However, only those participating locally will earn the energies.
There’s another treat for those who manage to capture these legendary creatures. Depending on the Pokémon, their status screen might feature a unique background inspired by Pokémon Black and White. For example, find Reshiram styled with a Pokémon Black motif, while Zekrom adopts a Pokémon White theme. As for Kyurem, it brings a touch of surprise, offering either background. Here’s a fun twist: if you fuse two Pokémon boasting different background designs (imagine a Zekrom with a Black background and a Kyurem with a matching Black background), you’ll unlock a special third background.
This event certainly seems to promise an electrifying experience for all Trainers, mixing nostalgic elements with thrilling new challenges.
