Earlier this week, Steel Wool Studios shook up the gaming community by revealing that Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic will be hitting PlayStation 5 and PC on June 13th. However, they’ve stirred some controversy by omitting any references to PSVR 2 support, which has many fans scratching their heads.
At PAX West last year, attendees got a sneak peek of a PSVR 2 demo of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic. The game was originally presented as a versatile blend between VR and traditional screen gaming by the renowned studio known for creating immersive experiences.
Steel Wool Studios has been carving its niche in the VR world since 2012, following an early funding boost of $5 million from HTC in 2016. They’ve brought us engaging titles like FNAF: Help Wanted and its sequel, as well as Hello Neighbor Search and Rescue. With their latest announcement, however, the absence of PSVR 2 from their promotional content is noticeable. It’s been scrubbed from their marketing, including the game’s page on the PlayStation Store, which was initially suggestive of PSVR 2 compatibility based on archived web data.
The last official nod towards PSVR 2 support was on a now-removed post by PlayStation themselves, dated February 12th, aligning with the game’s launch announcement. As it stands, Steel Wool Studios remains mum on the VR question mark, leaving us to wonder if and when PSVR 2 support will make its appearance. Meanwhile, there’s still uncertainty surrounding whether the PC releases on platforms like the Epic Games Store and Steam will feature an optional VR mode.
We’ve reached out to the team at Steel Wool Studios for clarification, but we’re still waiting on a response. As soon as more information becomes available, whether it concerns a postponed VR mode launch or an alternative strategic rollout, you’ll hear it here first.
