Game Science, the team behind the eagerly anticipated “Black Myth: Wukong,” has once again stressed that the game’s unexpected exclusivity to the PS5 is due to difficulties optimizing it for the Xbox Series S. Despite persistent rumors suggesting Sony secured a “secret” deal to keep the game exclusive, there has never been any substantial evidence to support such claims. In fact, vague comments from Microsoft might have inadvertently encouraged this speculation, but they simply don’t hold water.
Feng Ji, the director of “Black Myth: Wukong,” recently addressed these rumors on the Chinese social media platform Weibo, with insights highlighted by ResetEra. His comments followed the game’s success at the Steam Awards, where it snagged the prestigious Game of the Year 2024 accolade. During this reflection, Ji expressed regret about the absence of an Xbox version.
He specifically pointed out the challenges posed by the Xbox Series S’s hardware, saying, “It seems a bit wrong but that 10GB shared memory, without a few years of optimization experience…” These words highlighted the difficulties Game Science faced, suggesting that without extensive optimization know-how, the game’s performance on the Series S couldn’t be guaranteed.
Meanwhile, Microsoft has publicly distanced itself from these optimization issues. In a statement to Forbes, the company said, “We’d prefer not to comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we can confirm that the delay is not due to Xbox platform limitations that have been raised to us.” Essentially, Microsoft claims no involvement or awareness of the problems related to the Xbox Series S development.
With all of this clarified, it seems we can finally lay these misleading reports to rest once and for all.
