A recent update for Windows 11 seems to have thrown a wrench in the works for some Ubisoft enthusiasts, particularly those looking forward to diving into Star Wars Outlaws.
Let’s face it, computers can be a real hassle sometimes, can’t they? We depend on them for a lot, and then, out of the blue, an update rolls in and messes everything up with no apparent rhyme or reason. Sure, gaming might not be the end-all, be-all, but this recent Windows 11 update has sure caused a stir among fans of Ubisoft titles. Last week’s update apparently made some of these games unplayable, and players quickly caught on. The good news is that Microsoft has acknowledged that the problem isn’t with your setup but with their update.
A statement from Microsoft lays it out clearly: “After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you might encounter issues with some Ubisoft games. These games might become unresponsive while starting, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users might receive a black screen.” The affected titles include popular entries like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
To help cushion the blow, Microsoft has implemented a compatibility hold on PCs with these games installed, preventing the installation of Windows 11 version 24H2 through the usual Windows Update channel. They advised against manually forcing this update using tools like the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until a solution is implemented.
In the meantime, Ubisoft has stepped up with a temporary fix. However, they did mention that “you may experience some performance issues while we work on a more permanent fix. As soon as it is ready, we will let you know.” Patience might be the best approach for now, and considering the usual size of our gaming backlogs, there are probably plenty of other titles ready to entertain in the interim.
